New Smart Keys - How To Disassemble
Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone on here has managed to disassemble one of these newer style Mercedes smart keys?
I was playing around with one last night but didn't get very far before I started worrying I'd accidentally damage it:
Can you tell me if there's some special technique for getting those metal side strips off & pulling out the circuit board?
Or am I seriously going to have to break this thing apart on purpose just to see inside?
Regards,
Tom

Why the big need to disassemble it...other than to replace the battery, that is? Don't they go for a couple of hundred dollars each? Just askin' :-)

I just want to see what's going on inside of its casing... no soldering or anything planned right now.
I got this one for only like $50 on ebay so I'll probably just wind up cutting it in half in the next week or so if no one has any better ideas. lol
Later,
Tom

Damn any luck with this? I am scratching my head as to how he was able to remove the section as a whole!! Infact I can't even get the chrome part at the bottom out.

Ran across this looking for info on something else. To get the circuit board out, remove the blade key and look inside the recess. Nearly even with the black slider release for the blade key is an internal latch. Hold the key with the buttons towards you and the latch will be on the left side. Take a pick and slide it towards the right. It should take very little force. The chrome piece will then be released and can pull out of the top along with the battery tray. Then the board just slides out.

Resurrecting an ancient thread after exhaustive searching. Anyone have a precedure for replacing the housing of the new keys? Dropped my new AMG key and have nasty road rash on the new key. I wanted to replace the shell. I haven't seen where anyone has done this with the new keys yet. Any ideas?

I think the key in this video is different. Maybe it's a euro model, fake, or something else. The lock button looks different and the rear chrome assembly looks a little different than mine.
