dash bulb replacement ??

I just got a 93 600SEL and have a couple of bulbs out in the dash behind the clock, light switch, right side vent controls, left side climate control, and shifter.

How do I access these lights?

Well, there is a tool you could use to pull the dash display unit out. First, move the steering wheel away from the dash as far as possible and then pull the dash unit out. Behind the unit, you'd find which bulb needed to be changed. If you need to unplug the unit from the car, it's pretty straight forward. Afterward, push the unit back in and see if you corrected the problem.

This is what the cluster removal tools look like. You can also shape a couple pieces from a wire hanger to do the job just the same. I have seen these tools sold on ebay from time to time.

I'm not sure what your dash looks like but on my W210 E class, they are inserted at the mid point where you dash pad ends and the wood trim begins. There is a small gap there...

Intresting thread guys! My 97' E420 has no illumination in the climate controls module. Is that lit by a light behind it as well??

Yes, there is a bulb behind it. Probably burned out. I had mine replaced a year ago.

There isn't a light per say behind it but there are small lights that need to be soldered in/out inside of the unit from what I understand. I wanted to change the color at one point, of the illumination but it wasn't worth the trouble...
