Click click tock tock sound... maybe lifters?
I recently bought a mercedes c240 2002 used.
Since i bought it i am hearing a clicking or tock tock sound from the motor somewhere.
What i tried doing is changing the oil to high quality stuff that is recommended by MB. That didnt help. Then i tried putting that heavy stuff into the oil that is thick just 1 quart and that helped just a bit maybe, but not much. There was another suggestion to get techron and put it in the gasoline and drive the car and keep the RPM high saying that would fix it. That didnt either.
I dont know what this could be. I assume its a lifter...
I will make a video of it tomorrow and post it here.
Thanks!

MB wants $130 an hour just to diagnose it. Unfortunately I don't have that type of money to shell out at the moment
. I will take a video today maybe that would help.
I have made a short video:

It is definitely not the purge valve that is making this sound. Its coming from the left side of the motor if you are looking at the front of the car.
If you are *really* desperate, try adding a small container of ‘Mystery Oil’ (that’s the trade name) to the crankcase. This concoction is found at virtually all auto parts stores. Mystery Oil can – in some cases – loosen up a sticky lifter. Personally, I wouldn’t drive the engine hard while the Mystery Oil is in the crankcase and change the oil after about 3,000 miles; the stuff is solvent-based. Not a cure-all and definitely nor recommended by MB, but it has been known to work on older engines.

FWIW, my S55 developed a clicking sound, especially when cold. Changed the belt and the engine is quiet as a lamb. Same problem occured to my SL600 a few years back.

I apologize I just made the video public. You can view it here:

Buying the parts and replacing them is not the problem and i can afford it. But paying MB 130 an hour to diagnose is crazy.
I definitely think it's one of the lifters. Can anyone show me a picture of how these lifters look? Are they the ones that can be adjusted?

Regarding this thread:
From my professional experience as a body shop owner and flipper, it sounds like a failing lifter tappet / lifter bucket, which means a bad cam. I had to address the same sounding issue with an ML63 that was on one side and clearly a deep, noticeable sound. The cam wore through the valve tappet bucket and it literally looked like a donut with a hole in it. They're not supposed to have holes. Cam was jacked up too. $5500 later I got the problem resolved.
Just thought I'd chime in if anyone happens to find this thread in the future.
