Have you checked your fuel mixture? Does it drive ok? Does if misfire at all?

Does your engine get to full opertating temp?

thanks for your reply!

I have always used regular gas is that ok?

It drives fine but shakes a little on idle

it never misfired

yes it gets to full temp

It has a strong smell of gas I get a little white smoke sometimes but nothing major. It's an import from japan with 73,000 but the spedo stopped working so I'm thinking it has a lot more than 73k..

Your high HC is unburnt fuel, if you can smell it then it's a problem.

These engines should be pretty smooth at idle.

To minimise your out of pocket expences I'd just replace the spark plugs (use standard copper plugs correctly gapped, they dont like expensive plugs), clean the distributor cap and rotor and adjust you fuel mixture to correct specs. A bit of injector cleaner might help too but you may find they are getting close to replacement anyway.

great! thanks so much for the info.

what type of gas should i be putting in? Gas is crazy expensive over here (vancouver canada) i was told regular is fine? should I put in a higher grade to help it pass aircare? what about using methol hydrate? do you think that would help at all or should i just try the things you said first?

Thanks again!
