Disconnecting the Battery
This may be a dumb question but should I have any concerns about temporarily disconnecting the (-) terminal on my ML350?

I don't think you should worry, I do this for safety reasons. You should be worried if you disconnect the positive cable first since it could cause short something out (fireworks!).
