2013 MB SL550
2013 SL 550 Navigation issues (avoids highways)

I have had 3 prior MB's so I understand the Mercedes navigation.

In the 2013 Nav no matter what is checked fast route, etc. the unit will still have me drive on surface streets rather than take the highway. Only when I am almost at the on-ramp will the unit recalculate to take the freeway. It is almost as if the "avoid freeways" is checked...but it is not.

Any suggestions? On multiple destinations this has been a consistent issue.

I posted this on the 2013 SL550 section and other members are having the same issue.

Hi All,
I am in the GPS Nav software business. We supply the nav software to a number of OEMs. We also supply Harman, who may be the supplier of the S class navi for 2013, - it's either Harman or Bosch. Anyway, I'll check to see if there are any known issues. From the complain, it sounds like you have checked "Shortest" rather than "Fastest". Tell me what your routing options are in that regard: Shortest Distance; Fastest Time, etc...

I have fastest route checked.

I have tried Dynamic fast route, shortest route, etc. but all yield the same results. It is as if the selection does not make a difference.

I have checked and unchecked "avoid highways" but the result is the same. Thought maybe it would help but no diff.

The radio is a Harman with mBrace 2.

Thks for your assistance

Actually your head unit is a Melco (Mitsubishi Electronics). All NTG 4.5 units are Melco. Mapping software is provided by Navteq.

NAVTEQ just provides the map data. Melco doesn't do software. So far I've got a blank on this. But if you are having the problem, then Others Are too. That will lead to a software update.

Melco does do the COMAND SW in cooperation with Daimler AG and MBRDNA. Melco writes the SW to our specs. And yes Navteq does do the mapping SW.

No use to debate it. navteq (now Nokia) is a map data vendor. My company is one of their largest customers - anyway. Good luck with the issue. It will have to come from MB as an update.
