"Cell phone noise" at Start-up on 2000+ cars; TeleAid?

Every morning, as I start my 2000 E430 4matic, I get a loud, intrusive tone through the speakers, which may or may not happen again during the day. A friend with a 2000 CLK320 also gets it and described it as a "cell phone noise". Neither car has the factory telephone. The dealer didn't know what I was talking about and a tech at MBUSA said it was for the SOS TeleAid system.

Does anyone know what this tone means and is it supposed to be intermittent? I find it rather annoying.

Thanks, Paul

You might want to post this to the Audio & Electronics Forum. Those people seem to know a lot about A&E.

This sound is normal and is basically to let you know that your teleaid system is functioning. It won't really happen every time you start the car. Usually some time has to pass when it's parked for you hear it again.
