Stall at Idle

My friend's 1993 400E (USA) developed an idle problem all-of-a-sudden. Car runs just fine except it stalls instantly when you take your foot off the gas. I popped the plastic cover off the engine and screwed the white plastic accelerator cable holder screw to dial in significant idle boost. It's now running a functional steady 900 RPM at idle.

Some questions:
(1) Is this car safe to drive 10 miles to the MBZ dealer?
(2) I suppose that the real idle is not controlled by what I changed... is there some other control?
(3) Did I cover over some other sort of problem? This car went from idling absolutly fine to completely dysfunctional.

If it doesn't stall again, I guess it's safe to drive 10 miles. My guess is the car need some adjustment with the air/gas mixture, maybe?
