Noise in rear of S55
Hello all. I have 2003 S55 w/ 98,000 miles and it is making a noise in the rear of the car. It's a low frequency, rythmic sound (woo woo woo woo)which starts after reaching 20 mph and changes with speed. It makes the same sound when accelerating, decelerating, and coasting in neutral. The sound goes away when going around left hand turns but does not change when going around right hand turns. All four tires have been replaced with new Continental DWS's within the last 2 weeks and the sound did not change. I'm guessing it's a wheel bearing but I would like to hear what others have to say. Thanks for any input.

Update: based on the frequency of the sound I'm thinking it may be driveshaft related. Anybody know how hard it is to replace either the flex disk(s) and/or the center driveshaft bearing? Thanks.

Sure sounds like either the drive shaft CV joint or the pinion bearing. Should be easier to diagnose on a hoist - isolate where the boise is originating. Good luck with the repair and let us know what you find.
