2009 320GL 26K Low Pressure Fuel Pump Failure

I have only 26,000 miles on my 2009 320GL. Only owner, always the same gas station, chevron and without any other issues I lost power and the engine stalled. Dealer stated that the pump isn't putting out any flow. Four months out of warranty and an $1,800 cost to replace. Shop states that it's an 8hour job to R&R since its built into the fuel tank.

Anyone else experience this or heard of at such a low mileage? Seems like an unreasonable MTBF.

Answer

The passenger side unit has been superseded.

This failure is not unusual on most modern vehicles.

The only thing cooling the pump is the fuel, running below 1/4 tank frequently causes premature failure.
