S63 Rear Battery

S63 Rear Battery
I was told by the MB service dept that to charge a low rear battery I should hook up the charger to the starter battery.
The following is the voltages of each battery.
Front 12.8V
Rear 3.6V
Turn on charger: Front 14.6 V
Rear 3.6 V
Start Car: Front 14.5 V
Rear 14.2 V
Turn Car Off: Front 12.9 V
Rear 12.8 V
Note: over the next hour, with the charger off, the rear battery gradually reduces down into the low 6's I would imagine will end up returning to the 3 volt range by the end of the day.
Two Questions:
How do I charge the rear battery? I hooked a trickle charger up to it in January and all the instrument panel lit up. I have not done that again as I now am worried that I could damage the electronics
When I hook the charger up to the starter battery why does in not charge the rear battery?

Answer
They are two isolated circuits when the key is off.
Change the battery like any average unit, being aware you may need to reprogram some of the electronics.
