What color should my trans fluid be?

I have a 2006 E500, 100K miles. For the 1st time ever my car made a jerk when switching gears around 30 mph. I think I may need new trans fluid or maybe low? I took a dipstick and stuck it down there and came up with a yellowish brown liquid. I thought it should be red? Any thoughts? I was told that the fluid is lifetime, I dont believe that.

i believe most people find the fluid to be black when removed. i've been told that this happens with older synthetic fluid.

My first concern would be:

2006 and earlier models; There is a well known design flaw in the radiator.
The transmission oil cooler cracks (inside the radiator) allowing coolant to enter the transmission.
I sincerely hope your transmission can be flushed, without requiring a rebuild.

Thanks for the responses. I just left MB service shop and all is ok. Let's hope it stays this way.

I suggest the radiator should be replaced before it can fail, causing worse issues.
