Hood latch?

Tried to pop my hood yesterday and only the right side was releasing. Finally got the left to release after messing with the hood while someone pulled the latch from inside. Checked inside to see why the hood wasn't popping completely and noticed the cable on the left side was broken.

I'm debating if i should replace that whole left latch unit [on the chassis. not the hood], and worried i might have to replace the whole cable system.

Anyone ever have this problem? I need some advice on what i should do...and how difficult of a job this is.
