w210 burning oil

My 1999 E320 with 60K miles has been burning oil for last 2 years. it consumes about 1 quart every 3K miles or so and may be getting worse. twice I've asked the service dept. to address it and they said it was normal and they couldn't find anything. Not normal to me. I've never owned a car that's done this.
Is this becasue the oil change interval is too long between scheduled service. I've only followed the FSS schedule?
Will this cause some long term problems?

There is no oil leaking to the ground...yet.

Hey, dont even spend another thought on this. 1 quart per 3kmils is almost "new condition" The MB technicians still consider 1 quart per 600 miles being within the design limits. Every healthy car is burning oil, which is between the pistons and the cylinder walls with every stroke. If no oils is "consumed" you either have a burnt head gasket to allow coolant to enter the oil circuit, or the mixture is to rich which allows unburnt fuel to delute the oil.

I personally change oil at about 4-5000 miles, since I think, as you also mentioned, the oil change intervalls are too long. My theory is, that cheaper fresh oil is always better than an old, worn out, expensive brand.

I don't kow about every healthy car should burn oil, my vette never burned oil, my E55 doesn't burn oil either.

My Suburban and the montecarlo do burn about 1 quart every 5000 miles (I use synthetic on them as well), and about 1 quart is pretty normal.

I'd exagerate to the dealer, tell them it is burning a quart every 2000 miles now and have them check the engine.

This happened in my 99 ML430. It would be down 1.5 quarts - 2 quarts in 3000 miles. They told me this was within the specs and normal. Out of all the cars owned, they never burned oil this this. Even my 94 C220 with 129k miles doesn't burn oil (with oil changes at 5000 miles, the oil is plentiful and clean). But,
"normal" according to mercedes

My E55 W210 has never used a drop, but I use Amsoil instead of the inferior Mobil. Mobil came out with a synthetic aviation oil, and ended up spending millions buying everyone a new engine.

Also my Cummins powered Dodge (Damiler-Dodge) has used Amsoil exclusively for over 70K miles and has never used a drop.

Try Amsoil.

I like Quaker Synthetic, but freaking dealer only uses Mobil.
I put quaker synthetic on my other vehicles for the most, with very good results.
