Changing steering wheel

I have a 2012 GLK and bought a OEM C class steering wheel to install (see picture). The steering wheel function buttons are not working despite everything seemingly plugging in and matching up. I have tried changing the contact plate in the wheel (there are two different ones) but that did not solve the problem. I see these wheels listed on EBay at several sites and all say it is a plug and play but I can't figure it out. The dealership hooked it up to their MB computer and says that there is no communication from the wheel function buttons to the computer. I am assuming that the elctronics in the contact plate are not inputing a signal to the computer. Even the horn doesn't work. The harness plug in looks identical on both wheels. Any advice appreciated before I give up and take it off again.

They are the same chassis as C300. Look in the C300 forum, and people were trying to get the 2013 C300 wheel (like the one you have) into pre-2013 C300s (with the round buttons).
IIRC, the steering column had to be replaced along with the wheel to get the functions to work.
