stop car too low

I've seen some post about this happening to others but I wanted some clarification. I purchased a 2009 CLS 550 about 3 weeks ago from a independent dealer. While driving yesterday I hit a pothole on the BQE in nyc. about 20 minutes later I got a "stop car too low message". I stopped the car and it then said "please wait, car rising". Took it to a benz dealer and they said it would be about 1800 to fix. If I remember correctly he said the car needed a new Strut. I'm still under the 60 warranty from the dealer so I plan on taking it to them this week. Other than that the car is fine and I got it for a good price. I know Certified Benz Dealers always charge ridiculous prices. If for some reason my dealer gives me a hard time about fixing this what is a reasonable price to pay for this repair?

Thanks in advance

A new strut is surely in order, 1800 to fix sounds about right at a dealer. You might want to check Arnott struts for a better warranty and price.

Thanks. I'll see if the dealer will fix it first since I'm under warranty still. If not I'll go through Arnotts.

Definitely sounds like a bad strut, it’s probably leaking and hasn't failed completely but will. If you wait too long it will also burn out your compressor because it will keep trying to fill up the strut. In terms of price that sounds about right for the stealership (possibly on the high side if they are only replacing one strut). For reference, the first time my rear strut went out I replaced both at the stealership, plus the compressor, plus one new relay. Total price out the door was $3300.

A week ago my front strut went out and I replaced it with Arnott struts rather than going to the dealer. Install was super easy but I’m having issues with codes and the airmatic isn’t raising correctly. Currently trying to figure out if it’s a software, relay, or actually hardware problem. Good luck with your car!

I've been driving it here and there. It's not low enough to hinder the wheel from turning. I've only had the car for 3 weeks. I'm dropping it off at the dealer I purchased it from tomorrow morning. They will take care of it since I'm still under warranty. I hope they don't give me a run around and I hope the compressor will hold up. Thanks again.

Just wanted to update you guys. It was a leak in the front left strut. They are replacing it free of charge (thank God) since I'm still covered under the 60 day dealership warranty. Should have my car back by Wednesday the latest. I'll be more careful in these brutal NYC streets.

Nice! That's like getting another $1800 off the price you paid for the car because it would have gone out sooner or later.
