Just don't use anything lower than the book said. Anything over is a waste of your pocketbook. Even the ECU tuned only need 93 rating. However, it's your money.

"In my neck of the woods premium is 91 Octane. E85 is ~100 Octane and about 35 to 40 cents cheaper than premium. Low down is ~10% reduction in mpg but no performance loss. ."
Help me understand this....the higher octane is cheaper? And 10% reduction in mpg using higher octane? Wha?

Depending on your car, it won't hurt anything but your pocketbook. Won't help unless the best fuel you can get is the 91 crap they sell in California. I mix about 25-50% in a tank to boost octane to 93-95 for my ECU modified E55. It performs much better as indicated on the G-Tech. My ECU modified CLK430 doesn't perform any different between 91 and 100 so I don't bother.

E85 is not just gasoline
It's 85% ethanol, and is available in the midwest.Ethanol is what raises the octane and lowers the price at the pump.Ethanol can be made from anything that ferments... corn, wheat, barley, rice, whatever.
Your mileage drops because ethanol has a fewer BTU's per gallon,ie less energy per gallon.
Unless your car is designed for E85,don't use it.
