I just found out from the AMG owner's forum that you can access certain diagnostic codes from your climate control unit - depending on your model. Here is the link:

http://www.amg-owners-club.org/board...&hilightuser=0

Below are also comments from the guy who posted this info:

"The procedure is to switch ignition on in the car, then switch the climate control unit. Then press on the "REST" button for about five to 10 seconds. The information will show which will be a diagnostic code (two numbers) and followed by its value, which could be tempreture or pressure , or rpm. To scroll down the codes list, press the "+" or" -" keys (for other cars, you might have to press other keys to scroll). I have also heard that memeory fault codes for the cars OBD unit can be displayed, but i dont know how. I would appreciate it if anyone here knows how to display the OBD memory fault codes on the LCD display of the climate unit. "

Some of the diagonsitc codes are below:

01: Interior temp sensor
02: Ambient temp sensor
05: Evaporator temp. sensor
06: Engine coolant temp.
07: refrigerant pressure
08: refrigerant temp.
16: carbon monoxide value
17: nitrogen oxide value
18: dewpoint temp.
21: engine RPM
22: vehicle speed
24: battery voltage

I tried it on my W210 (2000 E55) and it works. However, there are some codes that my car lists but which I do not know what they mean.

Can anybody help with the remaining codes?

OBD Codes?
"...anyone here knows how to display the OBD memory fault codes on the LCD display of the climate unit. " Please someone share this with us or verify it cannot be done. It will save me from buying an OBDII code reader. Also, is there a way to clear the memory without the separate reader?

12 Sun sensor voltage (to shift airflow in car).

20 Control current for auxilliary fan (electric fan on radiator, given in milliamps or mA).
21 Engine speed (x100).
22 Road speed (km/h or mph depending on installation).
23 Battery voltage at terminal 58d (as a percentage of total voltage, e.g. 99.0 = 99%).
24 Battery voltage (e.g. 12.8 = 12.8V).
40 Climate control software version.

Sir- I do not believe your can get OBD codes from your Climate control LCD. The codes mentioned in this post refer only to the climate control codes. I have purchased a OBDII reader that can read and erase OBDII codes from the obdII connector that is under the dash. It cost me about $150.00 and works on all OBDII compliant cars. I got it from midwayautosupply.com.

This is cool. I just tried it on my CLK and it's a nice little hidden feature to play with.

speedybenz,

You might look at the oil filter housing, lower left from the bottom of the car. The 300sdl had a sender at that point and I believe the newer cars do also. Just have a proper size T maade up by a machine shop. If you locate a commercially available T please let me know.

Just wanted to bring back this thread...I toyed around with my W220 S55 and found that the codes go from 1-100 unlike others just going up to 41. Its pretty cool seeing your actual RPM's when ideling, cruising or getting on WOT.
