W208 CLK Key Fob problem

I have a W208 CLK that has some wiring problems in the center console. We disconnected the battery to fix the wiring (telephone wiring) was short circuited and when we re-installed the battery the Key Fob didn't want to work. Remote Lock/Unlock wont work and car ignition doesnt recognize the key and wont click the starter. How do I re-synch this and what caused this to happen? Thanks in advance!

Do you have a second key? Hope the EIS Electronic Ignition Switch is not fried.

Unfortunately this is the only key the car came with
The remote lock/unlock function was working well and the car would start without problem until the car battery was removed to make way for electrical repairs. When the battery was plugged back in the key would no longer be recognized. Can't lock/unlock remotely and when its inserted into ignition nothing happens. It doesn't see that the key is in there.
