Unhappy Crank Shaft Sensor

I have a 2000 E430 4 Matic. Car stalled and would not start. After 5 minutes it started right up. Happened again after three days. Car would not start. Called MB roadside help. The car started right up. The mechanic said it could be the Crank Shaft Position Sensor. Is this unusual? Has it happened to others on this forum? Any comments greatly appreciated.
