Specific sound on some of the cars

Specific sound on some of the cars
Hello,fellow merc maniacs 
There are a few Mercedes cars of certain line ups that make a specific sound that always have bothered me. I'm talking about W124,W210 and W202. Especially cars from 1995, w124 and w210's 2L motors and W202's C180:

You know what I'm talking about - that badass jet/air sound that it makes. I can't really understand what makes it like this. And not all mercs sound like this. Why? Most C180,CLK200 KOMP.(w208) and E200 w210/w124 sound like regular petrol car(more like astra sound). But some mercs make that awesome sound. What the hell causes it?
