Suction Oil Change Okay?

I want to purchase this http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....2050&SKU=10186 oil change system for my 98 E300TD. Is this an acceptable way to change oil per mercedes specs? How is oil changed at the dealer, i am assuming standard out the pan because dealers have lifts which make the job infinately easier.

The suction method works just fine. I've used this same hand pump model from Girots for years. Now, my cars are always under warranty....so, I let the dealer do it on their recc. schedule so they have record and warranty stays valid......if I've run the car hard and hot and it's going to be a while before next change I'll do it myself.....now you still have to change filter!! Once there's no reason where you shouldn't do it on your own this method works just fine all the time.

Consumer reports actually did test of this method using Girots extractor and it tested extremely well...call them and I'm sure they'll share the article.

Suck out oil....

...that is how MB does it today at the dealers. The only problem I've heard about is them not removing all of the old oil and then adding a full capacity of new oil which makes it overfull. This produces lots of smoke and blows engine seals.

sounds good to me. i will have to order one. as far as over filling i can see where a problem could come into play but i will just have to take my time first time round to see how much excess remains.

that thing only holds 5 qts. go to mercedes benz club and they sell one that holds 8 qts. plus. most mercedes hold 8-10 qts in v8.

Just a note: the suction method will not work with Kompressor engines. I heard it's because the dipstick tube isn't long enough to reach all of the oil.

The suction method works fine on my V8 Kompressed engine and the suction method is the way most dealers change the oil as well these days.

We were instructed not to use the suction method on Kompressor engines because we had a few cases of overfilled crankcases in them after an oil change.

True for some of the kompressor engines, but not because of the length of the dipstick tube, but because the dipstick tube is connected with the crankcase ventilation.
Or you have to put a clamp on the crankcase ventilation hose (as prescribed by MB), or you have to use a suction tube that goes all the way down into the dipstick tube.

My suction device hose goes to the bottom of the dipstick tube. Must be why I never have had any problems.
