E350 Wagon 1208 code
My 06 e350 wagon had a 1208 code just over a year ago. I negotiated with the dealers and MBZ corporate and they agreed to pay for parts and some labor despite it being out of warranty. I was happy. Still, with additional bits (motor mounts etc) the tab came to $3100. 11 months later the engine light goes on again. My local mechanic (not the dealer who'd done the work prior) finds the 1208 code is back. I take it back to the repairing dealer thinking it's the same code, it should come under their 12 month warranty on work. They keep it a week and then tell me this isn't related to the previous work and won't give me any paperwork.
Smelled pretty fishy. I asked for the paperwork again. Nothing. I went back to corporate who gave me the company line which protected their dealer. The suit at MBZ wasn't able to tell me if 1208 can be generated by more than one problem.
I filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. It came back "inconclusive". "I don't know much about MBZ" he says.
My questions: Can the 1208 code be generated by more that one thing? Maybe they fixed one side and not the other, now the other is generating the code? Could the timing chain have stretched(thisis what they told me originally)? Is it dangerous to continue to drive it with the light on?
I can't sell it with the light on and feel I have been screwed by the dealer(s).
Any suggestions?
