C200 CGI Timing Chain
Is anyone on the forum able to confirm if this is correct?
Also the service centre has advised if the diagnosis is correct it will cost around A$7K to repair?
I had an engine light on the dash that would not clear. The advice in the manual was inconclusive and offered a number of scenarios. I have been advised that diagnostics show that the timing chain needs replacing along with some other components. Quote for work is A$5690.
My C200 CGI, 2010 has just started making that Diesel starting noise that goes for about 2-3 seconds. The car has done 64400km
I took it to the MB dealer who without blinking told me the analysis would take about 5 hours labour at $200 per hour per person, and if it was the chain the bill would be between $ 6000-$ 8000
Has anyone had any joy with gettin MB to contribute ?
Timing chains at that Km is ridiculous
We changed the oil last weekend, after the noise started,
We did notice the O rings supplied with the new filter supplied were a lot thicker than the ones fitted. But then again a non Mercedes service did the last change 12 months ago
We discussed this and decided to leave them ( probably wrongly) so we will fit the new Oil rings this weekend to see if the oil is draining too much
will keep updating when that is done
Thanks

Yes MB reacted when they saw I had the car serviced elsewhere after the 3rd service, purely because in Sydney they charge $ 1350 for a service, whereas any one else will do the same service for $ 650. I have found the arrogance of MB service manager in Sydney West shocking. After all a Mercedes in Germany is no more than a Ford in England or Australia. In fact with our mileage the Ford would not need a new chain
I am now talking to another Service who specialise in Euro cars who have quoted $ 2100 to replace. Better than the over $7k quoted by MB
So sad, the car has been great, can't fault it, but I will go back to a local car

Am also changing oil Filter seals this weekend.
Will get the local service dealer to check the posibilties it is not the chain
The car drives perfectly, no oil lights nothing, except the diesel noise when starting after standing for some time.So annoying and yes MB in West Sydney know how to charge and have had previous meaningful discussions with them about their charges, Best option is not to go back I guess
I had performed this job recently and I have a better solution than cutting of the screw. There is also way how to recover the stepper motor if you have a gear teeth broken. I made this tutorial and it's in polish but you can translate it easly.
Once we tested them out by marking bolts to see if they had done the simple thing of dropping the oil and replace it. NO. It hadn’t been done after paying for a full dealer service.
My mechanic at Ray at JT Mechanical isn’t much too look at but is a very good mechanic and does the job property at an honest price.
I own an Audi RS3. We needed to replace the Discs and Pads as recommended by Audi dealership after approx. 18,000km. The Discs were absolutely fine. We only changed the pads and did another 20,000km odd.
Audi were asking $4,500. I got it done for $1,500!😳
You do not need to go to the dealer! Your car will still be under warranty if your mechanic uses original MB parts!!
