i beleive it is a type of bnc connector.

it's not a bnc, there isn't the 2 lugs on the outside for the bayonnet to lock on to.

Post a larger pic and more looking "inside" the connector.

My guess would be a MCX connector.

MCX connectors conform to the European CECC 22220 spec and were introduced in the 1980’s. While the MCX uses identical inner contact and insulator dimensions as the SMB, the outer diameter of the plug is .140 inches, which is 30% smaller than the SMB. This series provides designers with options where weight and physical space are limited. MCX provides broadband capability though 6 GHz with a snap-on connector design. A range of connectors are available , including printed circuit board and cable connectors.

could be, I was recently the vp of engineering for an ultrawideband company, and we used the mcx connectors because of their smaller size, push on rather than screw on, and also because our signals went to 10 GHz !

Hard to see the insides from the photo...

Definitely much better than a BNC, they crap out at about 1 GHz.
