C43 & C280 - that whirring startup engine noise
Now that I've lived with our C43 for a few weeks, I have a question that I had with our old C280 Sport and never got an answer from anyone.
What is the whirring/purring/grrr sound when from these engines when the car is started (cold, hot, doesn't seem to matter)? Usually goes away after a few minutes.
Every W202 I've driven (C280, C36, C43) had this noise.
The noise increases in frequency as the engine is revved from idle.

You're probably hearing the power steering pump. Most every new Mercedes with the 112 V6 or 113 V8 has some degree of PS pump noise upon start-up. It's normal.
