Question Oil Coolers

Has anybody implemented an oil cooler for their benzs? I was looking into adding one for my oil, we just moved to Florida and the temp on my gauge is always around 100-110.

I wouldnt worry. If you are using Synthetic Oil its pretty forgiving as it can withstand higher temperatures much much better than conventional oil.

Why?

You've already got two of them-one for the engine and one for the transmission.100 to 110 Centigrade is normal operating temp for warm weather.

oil coolers are meant for motorsport or high temperature applications. unless you drive broadside to work at 125mph ... forget it. it will damage your engine or transmission as the oil would be too cold. It would be like driving hard when your engines cold. not cool.

using an oil cooler will not damage anything.

you use a thermostat in line with the supply side of the cooler. when the oil is not at a certain temp the thermostat does not open, when it reaches a predetrmined temp it opens and the oil flows through the cooler.

what about those heat sinks (coolers) that you wrap around the oil filter, are they good for anything?

yup im wrong. you can use thermoblocks or oil stats which normally operate at around 80c.

i know of one guy who had overcooling problems, as he used an oil cooler with too many rows.
