2004 s500 smart key wont turn in ignition

2004 s500 smart key wont turn in ignition
battery was dead for months, new battery , key fob transmitting , but nothing on car , no door locks no alarm ,no trunk unlock . when put into ignition wont turn, steering wheel turns.
