grease for door hinges

my door hinges need greasing. my plan is get a needle and syringe, then inject grease into the hinges. any ideas as to what type of grease to use, and indeed, is this the right thing to do?

thanks abtex

Do you mean hinges or check straps..... what model is it. I just put some Vaseline on mine and it did the trick.

If the hinges are making cracking noises the only fix is to live with it or replace them. Greasing would not work for long, if at all. Noisy hinges are just worn out and need replacement. For regreasing you need to take the door panel off anyway, so you can replace at the same time and be done with.

on a service sheet there will be say 100 items that need to be checked, for example check horn, lights, tyre tread depth, lube chassis points, lube door hinges etc. In a service they do about 30 of those things even though you pay for all '100'.

Lubing the runner in the door, and hinges is one of those things. I was just wondering if there is a specific type of grease to use. If you spray wd40 on your hinges it normaly agitates any hinge runner noise as the oil is to thin and it collect dirt big time.

Copper grease it is then

White lithium grease is available in an aerosol, which typically works well for door hinges.

But, if after repeat applications, the grease builds up too much. then washing it clean, with alternating applications of WD-40 and lots of water, works very well.

A groaning/creaking sound can be created by the "check link" (The black metal bar that slides into the door & keeps it open at certain intervals) Put some white lithium grease on your thumb & forefinger & open the door all the way. Start applying the grease on the top, bottom & sides of the check link from where it enters the door to about 2/3 of the way out. Open & close the door a few times to spread the lube. Don't apply it thick, so it doesn't catch dirt....just a very thin moistening of the link.
