Maintaning Battery Voltage during Diagnostic

How is the best way to maintain 12-volts while using STAR Diagnostic? I have been hooking up my battery charger, setting it to AGM and charging at 15-amps. It is working but the charger and cables get hot and struggle to maintain 12-volts. Thanks.
