CLK55/M113 Dual Spark - please explain

I have a 2003 CLK55 AMG with the 16 spark plug motor.

A couple of questions:
- What is the reason for the 16 plug design?
- How do I know if 1 of the plugs or 1 of the plug wires is not working?

I have a tool that can read Mercedes codes, and it is not showing any issues at the moment.

Hi
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_ignition

Using MB Xentry Das it does tell you when 1 or 2 are not working yes

cheap tools should read those codes too

and don't complain I have 24 spark plugs I replace every year and a half

Beru appears to be a good OE alternative and was priced well above the cheap option. Lets see what they are like when they arrive.

So, the ignition leads have arrived.

16 leads, as expected, along with 8 steel rings. The rings are a bit like key rings.

Does anybody know what the rings are for and why I might only have 8?

No instructions in the box, sadly.

Edit: the rings were actually from the tips of the leads. They are used to keep the end of the lead under compression. 8 were on the leads and 8 were in the box. Simple!
