Retrofit 2006 CLS55
I have a 2006 CLS55 that I am researching distronic to retrofit. Since this car - W219 is based on the E class W211, many 211 parts are used on it. But for the distronic module and its wiring harness the two cars use different parts. I have compared the harnesses as listed for the two cars and they look exactly the same, they connect at the same locations, have the same plug ends and pin arragements, and the same front SAM is used between the two cars. For the two modules, they physically look the same (I know that is not significant) and the electrical connection is laid out the same. Since there are many more 211 body cars available in salvage yards (I will be sourcing these parts from the used market), I question if there is any way to use the 211 module on the 219. I understand that once the distronic system is install, I will need to activate it by using MB Star/DAS, which I have.
Any thoughts and help is appreciated - thank you.

In summary, "Can Distronic be retrofitted into a W219 using parts from a W211?"
This doesn't come up often. Try posting the question in the W211 and W219 sections, because there isn't alot of cross-forum viewing and participating on this site. Also try Google.

I was hoping some of the savvy tech guys here might have some perspective on whether using another module would be possible. I did find in my search that both modules use the same firmware so that gives me a bit more hope. I will take your suggestion and do some cross posting and see if I get any nibbles. Thank you.

Then, just get the correct harness part number for your car
correct module number for your car (based on your vin in EPC of course)
hook the stuff up, activate done

Yes, my plan has been to use the parts as listed on EPC, but I am finding availability is very limited and so I thought if I could usd 211 parts I might actually get this done. Again, I appreciate your guidance here.

I think most driver over 40 don't want a car do something in their place
personally I was like you, adding every available option. but not that one after reading a lot

I'm well past 40 and have used this feature in other cars and find it helpful. I use cruise control (keeps me on the right side of the law) and this is - to me, just a little smarter cruise system. Thanks for your follow up.

yes cruise control is very useful I agree but its not braking and steering in your place that is what most don't like
