Gearshift buttons - coding after gear selector swap? W209/W203/W211

Hi

I've just replaced the gear selector in my CLK55 AMG. The car has the steering wheel mounted buttons and also engine stop-start on the shifter itself. Original part number was 2092670324. For reference, RealOEM shows 2032670324 as the replacement.

I had a breaker send me a part, which had a completely different part number. That worked for gear changes, but did not have the stop start button, so I sent it back. I didn't check the operation of the paddles. I get the impression that there are a large number of these that are compatible at the most basic level.

I told the breaker that stop-start provision wasn't included in the part they sent. The breaker sent me another part, this time with the stop start button. I noticed that the part number was neither of the ones above, but when i fitted it, it worked, along with stop start. I tried to change gear with the paddles yesterday and it wouldn't work.

Right now I'm not sure whether it is only the two part numbers above that will give me everything I need (stop start and paddles) or whether the new unit can be coded.

Can anybody give some advice? I found a post on another forum ('Paddle shifters not working after floor shifter replacement') for an 2004 E55 and that needed coding.

It would be great to hear from anybody with experience.
