98 ML320 Door lock issue...

Our ML has recently become ill in regards to the door locks. When you drive away and reach the set speed the door locks lock, then unlock, then lock, then… well, it will do this for a few seconds. Every time you come to a stop and then speed up, it will do it again. Plus, when you lock the car with the key fob, it will lock and unlock several times.

Any ideas? Is this terminal and requires a trip to the dealership or is there a simple fix?

Thanks in advance

Trip to dealer most likely. Those latches are a bit tricky to change sometimes. You need at least one latch, possibly more. Routine fix though, wouldn't expect more than a 2 hour charge for 1 latch, diagnosis and repair. It its the front door the airbag has to be removed, the pull cable runs behind it. The outer door handle also must be removed.

Same as another recent post. Culprit will undoubtedly be faulty door switch, which controls the light. When going faster than 9mph, it is designed to latch. But the faulty switch causes it to appear door is open and the light comes on, so the speed servo doo-dad kicks in and tells it to latch.

The door switch is built in to the latch on many newer models, all ML's are made this way.... Hence the need to replace the latch.

Anyone know the steps to getting out the old solenoid and putting in new one on Rear doors? I got it loose but couldn't get it to go anywhere to see it. (I do have rear airbags)
