Engine noise. Help.

New here in hopes to get some help. So quick run down my car is a 2010 c63 Amg engine mods are as follows
replaced head bolts 2017
weistec stage 2 supercharger
weistec tuned
weistec long tubes/full exhaust
built trans
weistec torque converter
some other odds and ends but that’s for the major stuff

now my problem is the top end is making some LOUD! ticking noise it sometimes is at cold start sometimes at hot sometimes all the time sometimes not at all.

I’ve pulled the valve covers and checked the cams for wear. I didn’t see any wear and the lifter buckets all seems fine no crazy wear that I could see. I also checked the cam adjusters the intakes had very little movement exhaust were solid.

I’ve changed oil twice currently using 0w-40 Mobil one I’ve used this many times before with no problems I’ve also added some friction additive still nothing .. here are some videos for reference. One video no noise. Other with. Any input would be appreciated.

these engines are sensitive to oil pressure. We can hear the valve train healthy but a bit ticking.

Mobil-1 0w40 is a quality synthetic but not a great match for these temperatures.

Try something higher grade like Amsoil or Penn ultra platinum in the 0w40.

How long would you say: you oil stays clean?

It stays clean for the duration Of the time I generally go off the months because I don’t drive it much so every 3 months it’s not to bad.

you think after changing the oil to something different it’s gonna quiet it down is what I’m getting from this ?

yes, pretty much guaranteed... and cost peanuts to try.

Use Mobil-1 in your daily driver is all right. It does not have a high enough flash point. It's viscosity is not so stable in heat range.

some of their stuff is not bad, a lot of marketing hipe and sponsorship.

Lubricant fans are polarized followers... Go with specs and research.

that's nearly as good as true PAO Amsoil

Might be worth checking www.bobistheoilguy.com and search by engine designation. You'll find plenty of stories. Can't go past Penzoil Ultra from my experience. Agree with comments re Mobil 1. It doesn't go the distance.

So I switch to liqui Molly 5w-40 and I definitely noticed a difference. It got quieter for sure but, still there I think I’m gonna try to add some ceratec and see if that helps. Thanks for all the advice.

Good to hear that the new oil has made a difference. How often do you change it? There are plenty who don't believe that even the best oils go for 10k miles. I change mine every 5k no matter what and I reckon my engine is happier.

Well I don’t drive it that often. So I change it every three months roughly. The noise has just started tho.

So after the car sat for an over a week I started up and it sounds like a diesel and now I’m getting codes p0024 and p0014. The noise is back again and it seems even louder. I ran the car till operating temp and drove it. No change.. 🤔😩

Thats telling you where to look. Camshafts out of timing, and that's what's probably giving you grief. Timing chain? How many miles?

You'll see on many forums that many change the camshaft position sensors which are known to be unreliable. Not sure that fixes much for many. As you seem to have a timing problem on one bank and not the other, maybe swap them over and see if anything changes? At least you might be able to eradicate them as the problem if nothing changes.

What’s weird to me is it just happens out of no where. I will try that. Just so we are clear tho you are saying to swap the cam sensors correct?
