2022 GLB 250 shifted from park to drive by itself
First post here so I hope this is the right place for this.
An acquaintance of mine drives 2022 GLB 250 and recently parked their vehicle in a lot, exited, and moments later the vehicle changed to (D), traveled about 100', and struck a retaining wall at about approx. 5-10mph. The police found the vehicle in drive afterward, but the driver insists they definitely put it in (P). Either way, I understand that there is a safety feature that automatically shifts to (P) any time a door opens so I am confused as to how this could happen?
I am a fairly new MB driver, so I just wanted to see if there is any history of recalls or similar cases of this happening in GLB class or other models? I can't seem to find anything online for 2022 models.

Did the engine restart by itself too or did he exit the vehicle and leave the engine running?

He could submit a complaint to the NHTSA (takes about 3min) and if others do the same, hopefully, they would investigate the safety issue. https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safet...clsrc=ds#index
