01 CLK430 - seat won't move back

All functions of the seat work except suddenly this morning it won't move back. up, down, recline, forward, headrest all work... but no backward movement. Has anyone had this issue? are there seperate motors for each direction?? I would have thought it was a switch issues but it moves forward so I am not sure that is what it is?

Did you check the tracks to see if anything is lodged in them?

If it moves forward but not backward, and no "wedging" obstruction is present, then your seat controller is probably in need of replacement. It is possible that your switch is bad, but this problem is less common with the newer CANBUS switches.

I don't even hear the switch actuating the motor... nothing... so I assume it is the switch... if something was lodged in the seat I believe I would still hear something... agree?

No, like I wrote earlier... if you don't even hear the switch actuating the motor, then it is probably the seat controller. There's a fairly long involved test for checking the seat switches, you can take it to the dealer for them to perform it if you'd like.

Yeah - I made an appt to drop it off in the morning. I'm guessing they will just tear out the switch and be done with it. Too bad it was just in there 1500 miles ago for "A" service.

I hope they don't just tear out the switch... because, maybe you haven't heard this anywhere yet, but it is probably the seat controller. They should do the whole test before tearing things out. Did the memory settings work to move the seat back?

Oh well.

It's the fuse in the trunk. Mine did this frequently until the entire mechanism - rails and motor were changed out.

Pulled it in... told them my issue... they called a guy out... he spent 5 minutes doing a "re-synch" and problem is solved! Best dealer experience I have had ever. They didn't even write up a ticket!!

Each fuse controls at least two motors, so if a fuse is out, then at a minimum two functions won't work. So, since he doesn't have that issue, it's not the fuse.

Scorchie is correct - no new fuse was needed. It's amazing that it came out of synch though.
