Engine mount replacement 98' CLK!

Any tech assistance would be appreciated. currently im changing out the front lower engine mounts on the clk. there are two bolts that mount it to the car and to the engine. I am able to access the lower bolt that bolts it to the car very easily, but the to bolt that mounts it to the engine are almost impossible to get to with out removing the exhaust manifolds. What is need to be removed from the engine in order to get to these bolts? Thanks in advance.

Stubby wrench and a well placed prybar does the trick for me.....
There is no way you have to remove the manifolds to change the motor mounts. Invest in a set of "Gearwrenches". They are available at many tool retailers. Buy a stubby set for this job, along with a LONG prybar. Put gear wrench on bolt, and use the prybar to turn the wrench and break the bolt loose. I would imagine if you only do jobs like this once in a blue moon, you would be far ahead to just pay to have it done at the dealer.....

yessir, stubby 17mm. Helps if you lift the engine up a little too after you remove the lower bolts.

17mm was too big for the job it nearly stripped the bolt. I started feeling around with other wrenches and found that a 3/4 in open end wrench worked the best. Thanks for your guys help i did the job in about 1 1/2 hr. Saved my *** a lot of money doing this simple job myself.

Sorry but why would you need to change the engine mounts?
