Exclamation 2015 ML400 Dealer wants to replace cylinder head

2015 ML400, 62,000 KM. Engine Light came on around the start of the year. I brought the vehicle to dealership in March for service, they replaced the spark plugs and sent me home. According to them, the codes were P030022 , P030500 & P030600.

A week later, engine light came on again. This time the dealership says they need a while to inspect it. After a few days, they told me that
  1. they put a camera in there to monitor the engine and cylinder 4, 5 and 6 did not have enough pressure. Valves are burnt on affected cylinder. They told me the repair will cost about $10k but Mercedez is covering most of it and I would be paying about $2,500. (Canadian).
  2. The best guess they gave me for the cause is "we suspect you have some bad quality fuel once".
I am absolutely stunned that a Mercedez with so little mileage is in need of such a catastrophic repair.

Do you think it makes sense?

Was the spark plugs replaced for no reason?

Should I repair it? If i don't repair it, I am not sure i can sell a car with the engine light on.

If I repair it, should i get rid of it right away or Can i trust it to run for a few more years?

Well, Bank 2 certainly has issues. If all the exhaust valves on Bank 2 are leaking, I would want to make sure it's not something with the cam adjusters. Have you independently scanned for codes? Get a good Mercedes specific scanner and scan for yourself. Did they take pictures of the burnt valves when they were scoping the cylinders? (At least my gastroenterologist gives me pictures when he does a colonoscopy.)

If the problems are truly what they say and Mercedes is going to cover 75% of the cost, that's great. But you also have to ask why they would do that unless there is something defective going on. Running a tank of bad gas is NOT Mercedes' fault, so are they just being super nice? Hmmmm.

You might find this document interesting, as well.

Rolling the dice

What are the chances the next repair after engine heads won't be a new cylinder block?

You want troubleshooting with repairs you can trust.
A real job warranty would go a long way to build trust. Repaired or free, right??
