2003 500SL Starting Issue

This has happened twice. I have driven to work about 20 miles, car sat for 4 hours, it starts, and I go to lunch. I turn off car when I get to the location, then after picking up food about 5 minutes, and then the car doesn't start. It turns over but doesn't start. I have to wait about an hour it starts.

What could be the problem? Thinking fuel pump, fuel filter?

Car needs to cool down for engine to start else it cranks but does not ignite.

Bad fuel supply makes sense but then you would also have additional hints about it including poor driveability issues...

So before you start guessing and throwing parts at it blindly: scan your chassis with a $150 handheld MB scanner.

This will provide hard evidences.
