2023 E-Class Coupe (C238)
Exclamation Error Message and Complete Shutdown!

I own a 2023 E450 Coupe. It has been relatively free of problems until last week. I was driving home and came to a stoplight. When it turned green, I lifted my foot from the brake and applied to the gas. The car instantly stopped running and in the center of the main screen a large gear icon appeared with the word "Malfunction" beneath it. I was on a slight hill, so I was able to roll the car into a parking lot. By this time several dash lights were on (sorry, don't remember what they were). I stopped the car, turned it off, and pushed the start button again. The car fired right up and I was able to get home without issue. I was very relieved because 1) it was over 100 degrees that day and 2) I was in an area where people would have been stripping my car for parts within half an hour.

I took it into the dealer the next day. They kept the car for a week and could not replicate the problem. They said that there were no codes thrown. The only thing we talked about was the fact that I had just done a software download on the car about 2 weeks prior. It was fairly extensive and they said it was possible that had something to do with the problem, but couldn't be sure.

I'm sorry but this is unacceptable to me. Over $80,000 for an almost new car and it tanks like that? And "no problem found" from the dealer? Makes me wonder if I should hang on to the thing. Anyone have or hear of anything similar happening? Thanks!

2023 Limp-moded safely before simple restard.

Sorry to read about your purchase experience being spoiled by an hazardous defect.

This used to be corrected by an acelerator pedal replacement very early on.

I am going to fill you in the reality that there have been many identical stories happening for the past 10+ years... This rewarding experience is not about to be altered.

The high maintenance ladies have their own sofisticated cholestérol, tooth aches, domestic violence, PMS... requiring "Sorry Mary, we could not reproduce"... followed by expensive misses - What A Well Oiled Circus

God blessed you already once...
I would count on that all the time, dont over extend your luck - Seriously now that you know:
YOUR CAR IS HAZARDOUS. Limit driving trips.

These awesome cars are built with congestive heart failure to disfunction mostly well. The best tip I can give you is to learn how to reboot your chassis by disconnecting all power sources.

GOOD: as far as I know electric steering rack is nice and safe.
(I saw a Chevy video where steering wheel would make 90° turns by-itself... flooded??)

The source of this issue is a combination of contributing factors. The ECU just freaks out for some reason in a fairly reproduceable way. KEY ON/OFF/ON Cures this for some time only (days or weeks)

I lean towards this being caused by unstable CAN-C networking CGW/ESP.
Not so much low-voltage itself directly... Nop

THING IS...:
-- Any module on CAN-C that crashes pretty much guarantee the powertrain is going down shortly.

-- Dealers do not have actionable items to correct these class of issues .... expensive wild chasses

-- I can see arguments to buy a new ECU.

Be sure to submit a report to the NHTSA since this was a clear safety concern. Takes less than 5min to fill out the form.
