2008 M273 ML550 low/no oil Incident
I have a 2008 ML550 and I was performing an oil change and forgot to tighten the oil filter down all the way.
drove it about 20 miles (no hard accelerations) before making it back home and smelling oil then noticing the pool spilling below.
now I have a p0017 and p0016 that won’t clear
which after looking on the star system says “replace timing chain” does any Mercedes techs or anyone who’s messed with m273s know if the timing chain is just stretched or did it jump a tooth?
I have since added new oil and filter. And it runs just fine at idle. Makes a little rattle noise when I drove it around the block.
I’d like to just figure out what I should do next. I imagine at minimum I will be feeding in the new timing chain from the camshaft area.

I too tighten my plastic oil filter by hand only: G&T.
your cides are stored what happen when you clear... do they come back.
Strange thing is it's only both cams of ONE bank. (What is your engine setup: hiw many chains, banks)
- Dont rush at swapping the chain.
First you need to quickly diagnose the variable timing gear positioning.
What makes it bad:
bad lock-pin
or bad chains
Also question Cam sensors being bad.
Assuming no valve contact you simply move it back a tooth.

Looking up those codes im finding limited info. The codes you posted mentions correlation between the cam and crank position.
Heres what it shows for replacing the timing chain: https://charm.li/Mercedes%20Benz/200...iming%20Chain/
Heres where i found checking the cam position: https://charm.li/Mercedes%20Benz/200...f%20Camshafts/
