M276 camshaft adjusters & tensioners

Recently replaced my faulty thermostat housing with an OEM part (Wahler) bought from Autodoc.

Also replace my crankshaft pulley with a Corteco part. I know Corteco are a reputable brand for these pulleys / harmonic balancers. (changed because my old pulley had no visible timing marks- the replacement has them engraved on)

Does anyone here know the OE manufacturer for the camshaft adjusters and upper cam-chain tensioners ? There are lots of recognisable brands available but I'm sure someone here might know which is best, other than Mercedes genuine which are extremely expensive here in the UK.

I don't know what supplier makes the genuine VVT gears per say... note you can simply buy rebuild kits or send out your own phasers to get refurbed.

Hydraulic secondary chain tensioners are extra-weak. Made with a simple hard rubber bearing that leaks out oil pressure - Buy the genuine Mercedes tensioners.

The consensus is the camshaft timing system requires adequate pressure to work. The very least you can do is service oil following "severe schedule" (5kMi).

Have you inspected your CPS for oil in harness?? Replace 4x $50Ea. + install sacrificial "pigtails" extensions.

I usually look at the part to see if its stamped with the manufacturer. Thats how i knew in my M272 the thermostat is Wahler, belt tensioner is Gates etc.

I dont have the M276 so dont know the part #'s off hand. What are the part #'s you are looking for?

Found a timing chain tensioner but not sure if its what you are talking about. Looks like it is stamped INA on it.

For cam adjusters and tensioners, INA is the OE supplier for a lot of Mercedes engines. They're top quality and usually a fair bit cheaper than the dealer parts. Definitely the brand I'd go for.

Thanks Alexie - I'll look at INA. It also looks like HEPU and SKF have cam adjusters available. Although my car has 135,000 miles, there is no evidence that the cam adjusters have ever been replaced. I'm thinking I might replace them (both inlets) as preventative maintenance before they damage the camshafts by hammering.

That's a smart move. At that mileage, replacing them preventatively is a good call to protect your camshafts from wear. INA, HEPU, and SKF are all solid, reputable brands for the job.
