Oil level reading won’t show

2019 E63 just had complete service. (At dealer. Haven’t asked them about it yet). Oil, trans oil, filters, etc.
When checking oil it has always taken just a few seconds for reading to show. Now it just says “reading oil level” and never shows level.
I have let it go for up to 10 minutes, no reading.

As stated in the owner's manual, it can take 30 minutes or longer for the oil level to show.

The engine oil level is determined during driving. Determining the engine oil level can take up to 30 minutes with a normal driving style and even longer with an active driving style.

In order to receive a result as quickly as possible:

  •
    • Warm up the engine
  •
    • Park the vehicle on a level surface
  •
    • Leave the engine running at idling speed

Thanks for the response. I have had the vehicle since new. It has always only taken a few seconds to see reading.
Even if it says that in the manual that’s crazy doesn’t that sound a bit ridiculous ? You have to take half an hour to see your oil level?

I don't know what determines it, but for starters it takes some time for the engine to reach operating temperature. The M177 in the C63 has a dipstick, so I don't have to deal with the flaky electronic level sensor. My previous car had an electronic level sensor and especially after an oil change it sometimes took a while before the level started showing again.

the day will come when a voltage transient cause a weird issue.
Today if you had a an handheld MB scanner you would know as much as the ECU about oil level and temperatures.

This s likely a bad connection, oil in harness or a faulty sensor. Scanner will give you more info to act upon.
