2 Low Mileage Classic Mercedes For Sale
One 1973 280SE 4.5 and one 1980 450SL. Both cars are in excellent original condition and need nothing. The 280 has 39,000 miles and the 450SL has 40,000 miles. PM me for detailed information and more pics.

Lots of obvious questions:
My interest would be in the SE 4.5 [our '73 was one of the few cars from my history that I wish I had back, notwithstanding the 10-13 mpg fuel consumption].
-Service records?
-AC function?
-CC function?
-Any recent work - bushings, rubber parts, brakes, filters, etc? In other words, if I wanted to actually drive the car [and not treat it as a garage queen], what's waiting to be done / replaced?

The car has an interesting history in that the car had only 2800 miles on it when I bought it. It had been in someone's car collection for years and had not been registered for years either. The car had been repainted somewhere in its life and was done to a very high standard and still looks great. I believe I am the 3rd owner. I bought the car to drive also, and have put around 36k miles in the 8 years I have owned it. I completely went through the car when I purchased it to the tune of over $5k, and have kept it well maintained since. So all the items you mention would not need attention. I would not hesitate driving this car anywhere. Like you said, these cars are meant to be driven. I have all of the service records since I have owned the car, which in mileage terms is almost its whole life. The cruise control was custom installed by my mechanic (who happens to be a 70 year old German person who, before "retirement" ran a Mercedes repair shop for over 25 years in Santa Barbara CA) and all the non-custom fabricated parts are from a 1980's era 450SL. As you know from the forum, I happen to have an 80's era 450SL and typical for my mechanic, the cruise control he installed works better than the stock cruise control in my 450SL. The air conditioning works well and I went through that too at some point. As for recent work, after going through the car when I originally purchased it, the repairs have pretty much been regular services, again, I have all the service records. Like I also mentioned, I set this car up for drive that is why I had the cruise control installed and added a modern stereo with a six CD changer, satellite radio, and great speakers. I spent around $8k on the sound system.
The car is located in Santa Maria CA and is kept about 5 minutes from the airport here, so inspecting the cars would be very easy and I can show it anytime with prior notice.
If the Mercedes 280 SE 4.5 is the only car in your history that you would like to have again, than congratulations, you have been given the opportunity to have what is probably the best example of a 280SE 4.5 available for sale today.
