FS: 300E AMG HAMMER M117 6.0L DOHC 385 PS
Hello All,
As some of you know, I have been thinking about selling my AMG Hammer for a while now, not due to financial reasons or anything, just different priorities in my life over the past couple years and most recently, married in October '10, but that's not to say that I don't like cars anymore.
Last November (2009), I sold my 500E to a board member, but as you know with my posts my attention to detail is very high, and I hope that you enjoyed reading the posts. With the Hammer, I have kept pretty low on the radar as it is an extremely rare car, only 1 in 13 cars ever produced by AMG worldwide. That is not to say that there are not other "Hammers" out there that have been converted by enthusiasts and speed-shops. My Hammer in particular has appeared in dozens of car enthusiast magazines originating from Germany, UK, USA, and other countries. This particular car was built by AMG in Germany. The car's VIN starts WDB124020 - the 020 signifies that it started life a 200 (not even a 200E) from 12/85, then proceeded through AMG's modifications to bring it to a 185 mph+ super sedan in less than a year. After being written about in Germany, it was brought to the USA by AMG of North America and it appeared in many magazines such as Car and Driver and Road and Track just to name a few. The car came to my family in Spring of 2002, and as you know I like to focus on engine, drive train, suspension and brakes
first =). I have a stack of records about 3" thick of just things that I have done. The list of repairs/refreshed items goes on and on, but Ill try to write that up.
I am asking $45,000.00 USD. I am not looking for lowball offers or dreamers, and I would prefer selling the car within the US, but I am willing to work with very motivated international buyers that can coordinate shipping. I am wearing my flame suit, so if you want to flame me go ahead, but just know, I have the Hammer. ;-) The 500E offers a very refined torque curve, but the hammer is very violent and untamed and it is very fun to drive and always will put a smile on your face. If interested, Please email me at my screen name here (no 6) @ gmail dot com Id prefer that over PMs. The car is currently located in Arizona.
I'm working on a powerpoint with a full write up, but I need to scale it down, it's at 20 MB. Attached are a few pictures.
Current Configuration:
Stainless steel AMG underbody (reduces coefficient of drag) with AMG black underbody coating, with AMG body kit (front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, and trunk spoiler).

300E limo front sway bar, 500E rear sway bar, with stiffer bushings
AMG modified rear subframe to handle S-Class w126 differential, with additional structure built by me. Installed 2.82:1, LSD dif, Torsen-Locking differntial not available.

Seriously, list it in Germany via online portals, at with top Benz clubs - in Euro it's not much really for such a rare car though mileage is quite high.
Also consider parting out for German market if no takers at price you are asking.
That was a crazy car in its day! Motor is a torque monster!

MBWorld Fanatic!
Amazing car. Worth the money in every way, especially since it is such a rare car, and represented what many people consider to be the first real 'super sedan' to come out of Europe.

The origins of AMG designation
By Nigel Matthews,
The AMG designation on some Mercedes-Benz models dates back to 1967.
It comes from the names of two former Mercedes-Benz engineers, and a place! The engineers were Hans Werner Aufrecht (the A) and Erhard Melcher (the M) and the G stands for Grossaspach, Aufrecht's birthplace.
In 1976 AMG moved from Burgstall to Affalterbach. In January 1999, Daimler-Chrysler acquired 51 per cent of AMG shares and AMG was renamed Mer-cedes-AMG GmbH.
During the 1980s, the supply of simply outrageous sedans was very limited. If you wanted a family sedan that would blow the doors off a Lamborghini Countach there was only one option -- the three-pointed star of a AMG Hammer.
AMG spent most of 1986 building just 13 Hammers. The list of modifications is very extensive, so I will list some of the important features. The engine of choice was the 5.6L V8 from the 560 SEC. AMG waved their magic wand over it and it became a 6.0L, 385-hp beast with 420 ft-lbs. of torque (566Nm).
AMG modified an S-class rear sub-frame to accommodate the W126 differential; the AMG attention to detail even included a stainless steel underbody to reduce the drag coefficient.
The cubic dollars involved to create these 296 km/h super sedans amounted to $175,000.
This car is actually for sale in the U.S. If you think you are brave enough to handle its wicked torque curve, the asking price a mere $45,000 US. Firm.

very interesting car....read about it back in 1988
Though u could have bought 6 Grand Nationals or 5 GNX's for the price of the Hammer.....and a nice GNX is worth a fortune....The GN's were the baddest car on the planet back in the day.....
These Hammers were sold primarily to oil rich Saudis looking for something to throw their money at....Hence Cannonball Run.....
personally I think the 65's today are SLEDGEHAMMERS and will be one day worth more then the Bull MONEY they demand now.....
Good luck with sale...and yes Barret will bring u the most money....people at Barret will know the history of this car.....

Anyone know where this car went? I'm a writer/photographer looking for an original 300E AMG Hammer 6.0 (or US conversion done immediately after purchase) to shoot for an article. West coast preferred, thanks!
