Looks like the DC dealer recognized a deal and scooped it up from NY to flip for a quick $. Anyone know what the new asking price is?

Thanks for the heads up, I changed the information. I wonder if Euro Motors bought it from the other dealer?

Man that is nice. If the miles were a little lower, then I could justify dropping 40k on it.

For some reason my wifes has still not sold it is a solid car with no issues.
Still on Autotrader.com

Potential buyer coming on Tuesday, perhaps they will drive it home.

Car free at the moment
Hi Folks,

Picked up my 2006 E55 Saturday morning in Atlanta and drove it home to Dallas. Sorry, no photos yet. There was no sightseeing or unnecessary stops, as the goal was to make the 810 miles in one day in order to spend Sunday with the wife.

Overall it was a very good experience. If anything, the dealer under-represented the condition of the car. I have yet to find any flaw - it is indistinguishable from new. For example, I have never seen a 6 year old, 50K mile car with absolutely zero curb rash, scratches, or marks on the wheels. Yet this car has none.

Kudos to RBM Atlanta, they are a stand up operation. I've had mixed experiences with CPO/Starmark in the past, but these guys do things right. Here's an example. In preparing the car, it required new rear tires, but not new fronts. However, they were unable to secure a matching set of rears (Bridgestone RE960s, I think it was), so replaced all four tires with Michelin PS2 rather than supply the car with a mis-matched set.

I ran I-20 all the way from Atlanta to Dallas. Traffic was very light and I generally maintained a ~75MPH pace, slowing only when the speed limit was lower in metro areas and for the very occasional left lane blocker. Ya'll will be disappointed to hear that fuel economy overall was 20.8 MPG. Running 75 with the a/c on, it is actually lower than that number; the average was brought up a bit because I had the a/c switched off for the first few hours.

I'll link in some photos later this week. Right now the car is dirty, and job1 is to get it inspected and registered in Texas.

Congratulations! Very sad to see this car leave Atlanta (even if my only encounter with it was a brief tire kick at the dealer) but I know you'll enjoy it. Glad to see another searcher find a wagon!!

Great story Shadow! You are supposed to take pictures of yourself smiling by the car before the journey. Glad you got a great ride. That is the way dealerships are supposed to CPO a car. You should feel like you are getting a new car.

Yeah, I know. But I like my privacy, so don't post photos of myself on the internet. You never know where your image might end up...

Well, I could stand to lose 5 pounds.

I actually prefer stock. Will get the windows tinted, but that's about it.

Thanks. Funny story. The previous owner of this car had two black E55 wagons, along with a bunch of other cars. However, his wife was unaware of this fact, she had only ever seen one of the wagons at a time. Apparently, she will never know.

Let me toss in a question here. This car has the 3rd row seat. I just learned this means it has no spare tire. Has anyone looked into adding/fitting a spare to the wagon? I frequently travel through lightly populated parts of Texas, where having a flat would be a major inconvenience with no spare tire.

Aloha all! I've been looking at numerous E63 estates and have a question. The E63 estate on ebay doesn't have keyless go. Is that something i can purchase later from the dealer and have installed? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help answer my question.

You're right, the car doesn't have P2, which includes Xenons and Keyless Go. I can't speak to the costs of retrofitting Keyless Go (I'm sure they are significant), but I wouldn't bother with this car at all. IMHO, an AMG w/o xenons is a dud, expecially since there are a few other E63 wagons for sale, all of which have P2 (xenons, keyless go). Plus, this car's price is through the roof. For a 2007 with only P1, I wouldn't pay much more that $40k.

I remember back when I sold Mercedes at a dealership, we had a brand new 2006 E55 AMG that we couldn't sell for nearly 2 years. Why not? First off, the color was black opal, not the most popular color. Secondly, and more importantly, it didn't have "lighting package" (xenons). I remember speaking to many a potential buyer, mainly wholesalers and brokers, that were very interested in the car and our $15-20k off-list price. But the moment they found out it didn't have xenons, they were no longer interested. I think we eventually sold that car, which stickered at about $90k, for somewhere in the mid-$60k range.

Long story short: Don't buy this one.

Yeah, the price seems absurd for 2007 wagon with light options content, reasonable but not low miles, and no warranty. It's a good $10K too high, maybe more.

I've had 211 cars both with and without xenon lights. IMHO there isn't really much difference in how well you can see the road. I expect most buyers want the "look" of the whiter light. Retrofitting the factory lights is possible, or you could install a HID conversion (which won't really improve the lighting if the reflectors are made for halogen bulbs).

I think that retrofitting keyless go would be brutally expensive. You would need all new door handles, a new shift lever assembly, new keys, and I would guess there's at least one black box hidden somewhere in the car to make it all work. Bet it'd cost $5K.

Black Opal is my favorite Benz color. It's pretty much black, so I'm surprised that macho AMG buyers avoid it. I would have liked to acquire a Black Opal AMG wagon, but settled for Obsidian Black.

Uh, better check the light,cause....

Black opal isn't pretty much black, it's pretty much purpl-ey blue. And yes,it is damn near impossible to resell. On the other hand, if u like it, you should have a much easier time buying it....

Well, maybe I'll go have my eyesight checked...

I did some googling to see what people have written about black opal. The concensus description is very dark navy blue, so somewhere in between what I wrote and what you wrote. Opinions are very much polarized, people either love it or hate it, not much in the middle. Definately not a safe choice for resale value.
