Some people do,not only because of 2 extra seats, but because it's a very rare model...
BTW I search 100 miles around your area, there is one gold for 15K with 62.600 miles !!! (No AMG Package)
Other ones have even bigger mileage,so may be 19.5 is " kinda pricy for 96.... " , but if you want something special with a super low mileage and pristine condition wouldn't you pay couple grands more ?

is the car radioactive? did it come out of a Japanese car auction? you gotta love those Canucks who buy their dream Benz from an auction for 6 or 7k, ship it over for 4 or 5, then immediately boost the price to double what it's really worth - hey, we can all buy a Japanese Benz and import it easily as soon as it is 15 years old, and a rear seat doesn't cost an extra 8 or 9 grand ... how will those kids of yours fit into the cubby hole seats in 3 years when you still have it, because it is unrealistically priced?
enjoy selling the car, and more important, enjoy driving it with the Return of The Jets!

Wrong Assumptions on Importing to the USA

Quote - "we can all buy a Japanese Benz and import it easily as soon as it is 15 years old"
Two mistakes here if your speaking for the USA market, (you didn't fill out your location in your profile)
1 - 15 years is a Canadian rule, the USA has a 25 year rule making this car a "Grey Market Car". To be exempt from the expense of "Grey Market" conversions, an import needs to be manufactured in 1986 or earlier
2 - "Import it easily", not sure what you mean by "easily", but USA imports of cars not manufactured to DOT or EPA standards are not easy to import. The process is time consuming and very expensive. The process for Grey Market cars importing will cost a minimum of $5000 and more likely $10,000 or more. Brokerage fees, 19% of value import fees(tax), and costs to modify the car to meet EPA and DOT standards..
My definition of (easy) is "Non-Grey market", which means a $500 Broker fee, only 2% of value import fee, and relatively quick processing, (days....)
So for this Japanese 96 SL, you need to hire a Broker/Importer who is licensed properly, then pay between $5000 and $10,000 in addition to your purchase price, then plan on waiting 90 days before the car is released from Customs to you. Oh yea, if you don't have the car legaly modified with-in 90 days of the import date, the car can be siezed and destroyed by customs. Which means if you decide to throw plates on it and simply drive it accross the border, you'll be looking over your shoulder the rest of your life, and subject to criminal charges, siezure and destruction of the car, heafty fines, and quite possibly some nice new room mates with 3 squares a day....lol
Importing a 1996 Japanese Benz will only become "Easy" when it's no longer considered a "Grey Market" car, thats in 2021, only ten more years to wait "eh"?
So lucky for Canadians, they have "easy" access to 15 year old cars from around the world, their politics aren't quite as corrupt as ours in the USA yet.
PS: I really like this car, not long after looking at these pictures I bought a Black 99 SL1 SL2 Pano optioned SL. I wasn't going to buy a black one until I saw these pictures... I really like the 2 piece wheels on this one

I thought about it myself until reality slapped me upside the head and reminded me that this setup wouldn't be much different than the 911 I just sold to buy my Merc.

Quadruple Fail!
1. It's a 500, not a 600
2. It has a V8, not a V12
3. Even if it were a 600, it's still not an AMG.
4. The only people small enough to fit back there, would not be large enough, or old enough to ride without a car seat.
Wow.

actually they are really useful, for example, you're going off to the lake and The Wife insists on bringing someone else along ... so she sits sideways in the back seat and everyone is happy ... or you want to take a German Shepherd along for the ride, dog sits in the back
this series SL is much improved with the 3rd seat, we just want to get it for the same 10K that everyone else is selling them for up here, that's all
