German Spec, 1982 500SEC For Sale, $16,473 OBO.
Hi guys,
I am putting for your consideration my 1982, one owner, German Spec 500SEC. (Photos below).
Located in Florida.
This car is very special. You don't see one of these come up for sale very often, in this condition and for a reasonable price.
No smoker, no accidents, no rust. It has been babied and properly maintained since new.
A little more information as follows:
- Very early production car. A VIN search indicates that my car is No. 844 of roughly 70K SEC's built worldwide. From what I have read, earlier models may have had higher compression ratios but I cannot verify that.
- Purchased new (German spec) in Stuttgart, in 1982.
- Mileage is 36,5K documented miles.
- It comes with every manual and tag that was on the car, when new, at the dealership.
- 100% service records available, from the first oil change done in January 1983, to the last one that was done in July, 2014 (150 miles ago).
- Many registration and insurance cards that have been saved throughout the years, going back to mid 1980's.
- New Michelin tires.
- A/C works perfect for front AND rear seats.
- Dash is mint with zero cracks.
- Wood has no cracks either.
- Original set of TWO keys PLUS valet key.
- Original German licence plate screws, still in the Mercedes-Benz dealer bag.
- Everything works, power seats, power mirror, power sunroof, central locking.
The 500SEC runs and drives fantastic and turns heads wherever it goes. People give you the thumbs up when you are cruising down the road or want to talk about it at the gas station.
The 5.0L V-8 is smooth and quiet but it will remind you of its power by pushing you into the bolstered seats if you stomp on the gas.
Maintenance has been done regularly, whether the car accumulated miles or not and with 36.5K miles, it is basically a new Benz in my opinion.
Currently, the car needs:
- I have not been able to find the tool kit. I might be able to find it but worst case scenario, the new owner can buy one as they are going for $50 on Ebay.
- It has the original stereo (controls in German) and antenna. They both power up and operate but for some reason, the radio continues to scan and can't zero in a station. I have been told that it may be a bad connection between the stereo and the antenna but I cannot verify.
- I have not balanced the factory wheels as I do not want to put marks on them. You don't feel any vibration unless you reach 85 MPH but I rarely go that fast anyways.
Please feel free to PM or email me with any questions (mpuente-benz@hotmail.com).
I have previously sold one of my cars through this forum and it was a positive experience for both parties.
I believe in reputation, honesty and KHARMA. I am confident that the new owner will enjoy many years of happy motoring.
Thank you for reading my ad.

To answer a couple questions that I have received thru PM or email:
1. Yes, original spare tire is in the trunk and comes with the car.
2. I no longer have the original floormats. Pictured coco mats come with the car.
3. A/C vents DO blow cold air to rear seats.
4. No rust whatsoever. As you can see from the floor board photos, they look new.
Let me know if you want photos from any other areas.
Thanks.

The car is German spec. Mercedes did not offer the 500SEC in the US. This car was purchased new in March 17th, 1982 (one of the first SEC's ever made) in Germany (check out the stereo and AC controls in German) and immediately shipped to the US thru Kroll Leasing Company. Before the car could hit the US roads, however, it had to have US headlights and bumpers on it.
I have all the paperwork documenting the above.
Thank you Benzito. Yes, the car is nice but it drives even nicer. My wife and I agree that at 32 years old, this is the smoothest of the six Mercedes-Benz we own.

(Answering questions I received by email)
1. That is the actual dash (not a plastic cap) and it does not have a single crack. (Use Meguiar's for this, NEVER Armorall).
2. Those are the factory seats. (Mainly, be careful getting in and out of the car and not spilling anything. Also, I feed the leather in my cars about once a month with Lexol or Meguiar's. There is also Voodoo Leather that I have started using lately and works great).
Thank you!

Good luck with the sale Mario! I think you should keep it, because you know you'll miss it later. Also, I think you need more pictures - 40!

what is the color name/code?
ive never seen an early model with body colored lower rocker panels but it sure looks nice
im quite confused as to what u mean by german spec ( what aspects are u meaning )
was it grey marketed over to the states?
usually when they are german spec or euro cars they retain their german lights and bumpers

- Cars have different setups depending on the market they are going to be offered. 500SEC's were not offered in the US. This one was purchased in Germany and shipped to America.
- Actually the opposite was the case as a requirement to federalize cars in the USA.
Thanks!

i guess i was lucky to retain all my euro bits during federalization
they re-enforced our bumpers and doors rather than change to US spec. Same with the lights
the 85mph speedo is interesting....i couldnt drive with that in my face...just doesnt seem right

Those items can be bought online. I left mine alone as they are part of this car's fully documented journey.

'84 Euro SEC '85 Euro 200T
That's one of the nicer SEC's I've seen, I'd keep it forever, or at least till the rest of the world realizes that the W126 coupes were the best Mercedes ever built and the price skyrockets.
My '84 was imported to Spain for a German diplomat in '83 and then to Argentina a few years later and ended up in Washington DC where it was bought by a Canadian diplomat who had it federalized only losing the Euro headlights and wipers and Km speedometer.
When he retired in '97 he brought the car home to Ontario where its been stored every winter. I bought it a year ago for $5 Grand.
95,000 documented miles on her.
NO!It's not for sale.

On a different subject, I have had folks request me for photos of the spare tire well (original Michelin tire by the way) and also the area under the windshield, from the inside of the trunk. My guess is, to look for signs of rust. As images show, this baby is C L E A N!

Posted her on Hemmings to increase my exposure and as it turned out, they featured her as the "Find of the Day". Link below.
