2006 Mercedes S65 - Speedriven 800HP and 1000Ft/Lbs
Hello fellow MB World folks. The time has come for me to sell my S65. It was built by Speedriven approximately 3.5
years and 35k miles ago. It has a factory replacement motor at 38k miles, it now has 98k on chassis, or 60k on replacement motor. Motor replaced because it consumed an unreasonable amount of oil...this new mill gets about 4500miles a quart. Car has never been hit. Passenger door repainted as I backed it into a sign in the middle of the road one night in the dark as I was pulling out of a parking space. Minor paint blemishes and bottom of front valence has been caught on a parking barrier, also one wear item in interior, both pictured.
Car has Speedriven Top Mount Intercoolers, custom cold air induction, downpipes, billet turbos, a quaife locker, a built trans, Piersburg IC pump, additional HE, and lots of other goodies. Everything professionally done. New brakes and rotors, accumulators, upgraded valve block, steering rack, hydraulic lines, etc... list goes on and on. Executive package, all seat functions work, heating, massaging, cooling, etc. Soft close doors. Zeitronix, Wideband.
Anyway, I listed it on CL, but I'd prefer to sell it to an enthusiast on this forum. I also don't want to sell it in a very stringent emission control state, like one that does visual inspections or sniffer test, although the cats can be reinstalled in about an hour. Once installed, the Eurocharged tune probably won't like it, however. Price on CL is 24,999. Price on forum is 22,999. Also have a spare set of winter wheels and an Opti-1. Call to discuss, Zach at 603-498-1484. Craigslist ad below has more details.

Thanks guys! It's really not that hard, you just need to upgrade the valve blocks to the updated style (already done) and keep a careful watch on all of the abc hoses, allowing for 1 or two to fail a year. You need a good indy who is familiar with the platform to change those out or mechanical ability beyond my scope. The car has an appetite for brakes like all AMGs, so once every 30-35k you do those, and ignition coil packs every 60k or so (i just did one of them last week, one more to go, probably soon!). Also, if you run Pilot SuperSports, you go through them every 15k or so. One weird problem I couldn't figure out for like 3 years was how to keep the tires balanced. It turns out the car makes so much torque and with the Quaife has such good traction, that it would spin the wheel in the tire if the install shop used any soap or lube at all. Also, every 60k change the ABC fluid. Done about 10k ago.

I have had a few questions on the valve blocks, so I thought I'd answer in ad. Yes, they both have been replaced, and yes, we went to the updated design so they shouldn't fail again. Yes, that costs more, but it's the right way to do it.

What's the expected annual maintenance on a beast like this?

depends, how many miles a year is it being driven? Are you doing the work yourself? Independent Mechanic? I'd break it down this way, assuming 15k of driving a year.
Tires - if I use Michelin Super Sports, as the tires are staggered fitment and you can't rotate, I get 15k miles. $1500.
Brakes - Like most AMGs I have owned, I get 30-35k miles a set. Brakes are 4k for all 4 wheels, using all MB Parts.
$2000 per year.
Random Hydraulic maintenance - assume at least two lines need to be replaced per year. It's usually about 400 in parts, 400 in labor.
$800
2 or 3 random things breaking a year- anywhere from 250-2500 depending on the severity.
So realistically, I'd say 4550-6800. You can reduce these costs by a)using cheaper tires b)using used replacement parts and c)I once found some factory brake rotors on eBay (fronts) for 400 a side, which happens on occasion. Even with all that, I'm considering keeping the car, as it drives like nothing else. I much prefer it to my old E63, and my wife's 2014 E550 even she says "it doesn't compare". It just smoother and quicker.

After the Speedriven work, I only ran it once, on street tires, no burnout, and it ran a 11.3 - but that was pulling boost halfway down the track. I think Marcin had the boost set too high for the factory ECU, so when it got to max boost it was like it pulled ignition or something. It felt like hitting limiter. I didn't want to damage the car, so I brought it home. 11.3 was still plenty fast for my street use (driving back and forth to work) and Marcin at Speedriven is a crazy difficult guy to get follow up from. With the new Eurocharged tune and fresh coil pack, it doesnt do this anymore but I haven't been back to the track.

Just to keep ad at the top, I will continue to reveal other random expensive parts that I have replaced daily that are not mentioned in my ad, so you don't have to replace them yourself! Today's reveal:
Did both motor mounts less than 10k miles ago.

Alas, no infinity emoji....might be time to add one though with this monster lol!!!
[Sorry, , Zax63...I couldn't resist }
It's clear you went above and beyond with this build, and beyond the obvious "because I can" answer, I'm curious as to what the motivation was for building such a brute? I mean they have to be pretty hairy from the jump, right?
Can't wait for the next reveal.

I think it was a "because the car can" answer. It started with shipping to Speedriven just for downpipes and the Quaife. What followed was just a "well, if its out there, I might as well do the billet turbos, its only a few grand more" and I decided just to do a complete package. Frankly, if you did 20k worth of mods to a 370Z or a Mustang 5.0, it wouldn't get you to 800hp if you included reinforcements to the drivetrain.
About it being hairy, it really isn't at all. It drives like a normal car until you want it. I'd only recommend against it for amateur drivers because of how quickly you achieve velocity and how disconcerting it is. But when you put down the power, the quaife doubles available traction and you only have an extra 200hp and 300ft/lbs, which the quaife has no problem with. It's such a heavy car it just hooks up and goes. It's not like a mustang or a vette with 800hp which become almost undriveable.

VIN?
The ad on Craigslist shows a VIN that is not for a 2006 S65 AMG. What is the VIN? Can you ad a photo of the data plate on the driver's door pillar to this thread to show the VIN?

GLWS, beast of a car!
You can see the VIN in the 13th picture down (picture of the drivers seat) in the door jam along the right side.

I am an idiot. Posted the car on CL with the vin for my 968, which I was selling at the same time. It sold instantaneously and it's not half the car the Benz is. Its really not even in the same world, yet had huge interest, albeit at a lower price point. Anyway, the two photos in my phone were next to each other and I typed the wrong vin into my ad. Corrected now, thanks for the catch!

But I disagree: no idiot finds such a perfect place for that V1 that's for certain! Can't tell you how many times mine has saved my butt!!! Like they say, can't beat those arrows.
Interesting tidbit about the 968.

todays random part fixing reveal:
I replaced the Shifter assembly at around 80k miles, as I didn't want to have the failure which is common in these cars when the plastic piece breaks off inside and prevents the car from shifting out of park. I did it at the MB dealer, and they had never seen someone change the shift mechanism prophylactically before.

Somehow, thread got marked as sold. Car is not sold, and I just re-listed on EBay, ending Monday. I'd really prefer the car go to a MB enthusiast! I have turned down a number of offers from people who really shouldn't own the car...I don't want to sell it to someone who needs to finance the whole purchase, or who is in college, as I feel like I'll be charged as an accessory to vehicular manslaughter if a kid owns this car.
